Lisa's Story

Lisa is a retired RN who has worked most of her years in Long Term Care serving the needs of our elders. Lisa began as an RN staff nurse and worked her way up the career ladder, becoming the Director of Nursing in a long-term care facility. Lisa then switched gears and moved to Acute Care at a local hospital working night shifts on the Medical/Surgical unit and Labor and Delivery. This is when Lisa began to say, “I cared for people from their first to their last breath”. After a few years Lisa returned to her favorite nursing long term care and again worked her way up the ladder to become a corporate nurse. Lisa ended her career as Vice President of Clinical Reimbursement for a Philadelphia based company.

Currently Lisa serves as the President of the Federation of Democratic Women Indiana County chapter, and treasurer of the nonpartisan charitable Womyn United 501c3 organization.

During her corporate career Lisa traveled across the states of Pa, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Boston Massachusetts. During her travels Lisa found that the area where she currently lives and has lived her whole life (district 66) is one of the best in the state and the USA.

Lisa is an avid outdoor person who, along with her husband John, enjoys fishing, hunting (rifle and archery), camping and trail running. She understands the need to ensure that we continue to have space to participate in these activities. Lisa states “the natural habitat and resources in our area are wonderful. Protecting our precious environment has always been important to me and will be so going forward in my campaign! “

Lisa’s vast experience as an RN in long-term care living, combined with the fact that she is a health care consumer, has helped her realize the importance of having quality and affordable health care close to home!! She has seen first-hand instances where health care is not available. Lisa will focus on this issue and will work on making health care and prescription costs affordable!

Lisa has heard many complaints from residents about the economy and lack of living wages. She knows many young adults who have left our area to seek employment elsewhere. Lisa realizes that we must retain our citizens by creating employment opportunities that enable them to purchase a home and raise a family (if they choose to).

Lisa is a long-time supporter of and advocate for women’s rights. Lisa states, “we need to value the impact that women make on our communities!” Women’s issues and rights will be a focus of Lisa’s.

The recent cuts to Senior Centers which has lessened the availability of services that allow our elders to remain active and involved in our communities is a concern to Lisa. Lisa realizes through her nursing career that as we age our health and mental well-being is way better off if we remain social. Lisa will focus on these issues and work toward ensuring that we value our elders as much as we do ourselves.

These are a few of the issues that Lisa has focused on throughout her life.  I am asking for your support and TOGETHER we can make our district a vital and important part of our great state of PA.
